Outline of Annual Research Achievements

ナノスケール直径とミリスケール長さを同時に実現した単結晶Bi(ビスマス)製ナノワイヤーを用いて、トポロジカル絶縁体に代表されるようなスピン軌道相互作用が輸送現象に与える影響に注目し、1次元状態特有の輸送現象と電子状態を実験・理論の面から解明することを目的としている。研究を遂行するにあたり、世界に先駆けてナノワイヤーの開発と物性測定に成功した日本の研究グループが中心となり、物性測定用ナノワイヤーへのナノ加工と熱電物性測定を進め、伝導率，ゼーベック係数，ホール係数，ネルンスト係数測定より、その特異な電子物性挙動を明確にすることを試みた。ナノワイヤーの低温領域における温度依存性について検証したところ、理論モデルより電子のフェルミ面が3つあることから、このうち最も移動度が早い電子ポケットの影響を強く受けることが定性的に明らかになり、実験結果をうまく説明できるようになった。このため、ナノワイヤーにおける特異な輸送現象については、現段階では、フェルミ面が3回対称であること，電子の有効質量が小さく、結果的にワイヤー側面での散乱によって平均自由行程が大きく制限されることで説明できることが明らかになった。
