Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本国際共同研究では，年代測定等の研究分野で用いられている最先端の測定技術・ノウハウを活用し，生物学的な線量評価に比べてより迅速かつ高精度に個人の被ばくレベルと被ばく状況（入射方向，線質、部位等）を把握する実用的な線量評価法を、世界に先駆けて開発し社会実装することに取り組んでいる。具体的には、被ばくした人から採取した生体試料についての放射線応答から直接的に人体が受けた被ばくレベルを推定すると共に、生体試料に比べて高感度でバックグランドが低く試料による応答の差異が比較的少ない化学的に安定した素材を複合的に用いて，それらの試料に含まれるラジカル量あるいはその量に相関する信号（電子スピン共鳴吸収ESR、光刺激蛍光OSL等）を測定する。それらのデータを総合的に解析することにより，被ばくの状況と人体各部位が受けた線量を精緻に再現する方法を開発し、実用的なプロトコルを提示する。
本研究は概ね順調に進捗しており、１～２年目（2018～2019年度）には、若手研究者である研究分担者が相手方（ザルツブルグ大学の研究室）を訪問し、同グループが有する高性能のラジカル測定技術や先端的な試料処理設備の使用に必要な測定作業の手順を修得すると共に、若手研究者が広島大学の施設で放射線を照射した試料数種を持参して相手方を訪れ、およそ一ヶ月にわたり先方の測定装置・解析技術に基づく共同研究を行った。2020年度以後は、新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大の影響で相手方を訪問できず先方の研究者を招聘することもかなわなかったが、オンラインでのやり取り等を経て、実験データの解析や論文執筆等を進めてきた。2022年度には、8月に国際原子力機関主催のシンポジウム（ICARST-2022）において共同で研究発表を行うと共に、共著の論文を国際学術誌で発表した。

Reason

当初計画していたとおり、2018～2019年度に若手研究者が実験試料を持参して先方の施設を訪れ、最先端の実験機器を使用した測定を先方の研究者から指導協力を受けながら行い、共同研究として一定の成果を得ることができた。2020年度以後は、新型コロナウィルスの影響で外国出張が制限され先方の施設を訪問できないという問題があったものの、オンラインや郵送でのやり取りにより共同研究を推し進め、複数の国際共著論文を投稿・発表することができた。国際学会や国連専門機関のシンポジウムでの共同発表も行った。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究期間の１年延長により最終年度となる2023年度は、新型コロナウイルスの感染再拡大等から渡航を見合わせる可能性も考慮し、オンラインや郵送でのやり取りで共同研究を進めることを視野に入れながら、これまでに収集したぼう大な実験データの集約・解析に重点をおいて研究を進める。具体的には、2018年度以後若手研究者が中心となって日本側の放射線照射設備やラジカル定量用の測定機器を用いて放射線を照射し、先方が有する最先端の測定・解析技術を用いて先方の中堅研究者の指導を受けながら収集した放射線由来のラジカル量やその時間的推移等のデータを、データベース解析に長けた若手研究者（大葉）を軸に整理・解析することに注力する。そして、日本側で測定・評価した線量値と先方で推定した線量値を比較するブラインドテストの実施等を通して、検討対象とした遡及的線量評価手法の精度や限界について考察する。その成果は、早急に共著論文にまとめて、著名な国際学術誌に投稿する予定である。
