Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The present research aims to establish the digital archives of Friedrich Julius Bieber’s collection, who conducted ethnological research in the Kafa region of southwestern Ethiopia, on the Internet, for use in academic research. To this end, the digitization (creation of digital images and metadata for the details of each material) of the F.J. Bieber collections, including picture postcards, photographs, and ethnographic objects, was conducted. The project was undertaken to lay the groundwork for generating digital data from the aforementioned materials that would be available to researchers in other countries for academic research on the Internet through ARCHE (A Resource Centre for the HumanitiEs) of the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities and Cultural Heritage of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Furthermore, the project would lay the foundation for the activation of data sharing, preservation, and utilization.
