Research Abstract

今年度は, 1)超低速圧縮下のポリアクリルアミドゲルの力学挙動, 2)液晶ゲルの電場応答挙動のダイナミクス, を調べた. 1)に関しては, 分速0.005mmという超低速度で圧縮できる装置を市販装置を改造することによって作製した. 通常の圧縮試験が行なわれるような分速1mm以上では, 応力-ひずみ挙動に圧縮速度依存性はみられなかったのに対し, 分速0.5mm以下になると顕著な依存性がみられるようになった. ゲルの外径を測定しポアソン比を求めると, 分速1mm以上では0.5に近く変形時の体積変化が起こっていないことがわかった. 一方, 分速0.5mm以下になるとポアソン比は圧縮速度の低下とともに減少し, 最も小さいときで0.25程度にまで減少した. これは, 変形速度がゲルの拡散速度と同程度のタイムスケールにまで減少したためである. この体積変化は応力に関わる実効ひずみも減少させるため, 応力-ひずみ挙動にも圧縮速度依存性が現れることがわかった., 2)に関しては, ひずみおよび複屈折変化の電場印加および電場除去時の応答時間を電圧の変数として調べた. 電場印加時の光学応答時間は, 電圧の2乗に逆比例して変化し, ミリ秒オーダーであった. 一方, 力学応答時間は, 光学応答時間と同様の電圧依存性を示したが約10倍遅いことがわかった. また, 電場除去時の両応答時間は電圧に依存しなかったが, 電場印加時と同様に力学応答は光学応答よりも約10倍遅かった. これらの実験結果を説明するモデルを構築し, 実験結果と良好な一致を得た.
