Research Abstract

星形成領域や銀河中心は星間吸収量が大きいため、これまでに得られている磁場の情報は乏しい。本研究では、広視野近赤外偏光器SIRPOLを用いて、多数の星形成領域の磁場構造の全貌を明らかにし、磁場が星形成のさまざまな段階で果たした役割を観測的に解明する。
本研究のための装置運用や観測は極めて順調に進んだ。星形成領域に関しては、これまでに代表的領域(オリオン座、おうし座、へびつかい座、いっかくじゅう座、へび座)の観測は終了し、一部の成果報告も終了または準備中である。その結果、オリオン座とへび座星形成領域において、共に砂時計状の磁場構造が検出され、磁場が重要な役割を果たしていることが解明された。また、L1641の中心領域における磁場構造も初めて解明できた。とりわけ、グロビュールの磁場構造をこれまでにない高い解像度で解明することに成功したことは大きな成果であり、国際会議でも報告した。新たにサーベイを開始したパイプ星雲についても、成果まとめを急ぐ。比較すべきサブミリ波偏光観測も、一部については取得済みだが、JCMT/SCUBA2による系統的な観測が今年開始される予定である。
銀河中心に関しては、すでに中心領域のデータは、出版済み・投稿済みである。近赤外線によって銀河中心の磁場構造を初めて明確に解明した。その一部は、サブミリ波による熱放射偏光からとらえられた磁場構造と一致しており、本手法に基づく磁場構造の決定が正しいことが裏付けられた。また、本観測により広範囲における銀河面に垂直な磁場をとらえることができた。銀河中心方向の観測領域の拡大は継続して行う。さらに系外銀河の偏光データも取得した。
