Research Abstract |
The objective of the study is to realize a new type of super pressure balloon of which air-drag is expected to be smaller than that of a conventional stratospheric scientific balloon. Using a lobed-pumpkin structure of design for normal super pressure balloons that will be realized in a very near future, so-called 'tawara' type of super pressure balloon, of which aspect ratio can be variable, was designed. Four scaled super pressure balloons were manufactured and they were tested indoors.
