Research Abstract

脳には様々な種類の多くの神経細胞がある。それらは神経前駆細胞から形成されるが、その数を調節するメカニズムは良く理解されていない。その理由の一つは前駆細胞の形成がランダムに起こるように見えるからであり規則性を見出すことに困難がある。ショウジョウバエの視覚を司る脳神経が規則正しく形成されることを発見した。本研究では、この系を用いて、神経前駆細胞が形成される機構の一端を明らかにした。
