Research Abstract |
1) Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid, n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, promoted neurogenesis of neuronal stem cells (NSCs) isolated from rat embryos and also adult hippocampus. These n-3 fatty acids induce differentiation by causing cell cycle arrest in NSCs. 2) In randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled trail, preventive effect of DHA supplement for 12 months on cognitive decline rate in elderly people with very mild dementia was observed.
