| Research Abstract |
By surveying British Empire's policies towards languages and cultures in India and its surrounding areas, and by analyzing Anglo-Indian novels, I revealed the nature of English people's perception of different cultures. I also revealed the influence of modern science towards racism and White-oriented worldviews in the 19^<th> century.
By comparing British India with Meiji Japan, I researched into the modernization of Japan under the influence of "the discourses of the West".
