Research Abstract |
This study has revealed one of pyro-technological developments of city formation stages, Ubaid to Uruk periods, in the ancient West Asia. In a reconstructed updraft kiln experimental firings of modeled pottery vessels have assumed that most of painted pottery would have been fired at temperatures of 800 and more for about an hour, and Ubaid painted pottery with hard surface could have been fired at a higher temperature range of 900 and more for at least an hour in the updraft kiln. It has been also observed that black pigments of manganese oxide might be more stably adhesive on the surface of pottery than reddish brown one of ferric oxide (hematite).
