Research Abstract

ミクロネシアのファイス島から出土した交易土器が、時代によって異なる地域で生産されたものかどうかを検討するため、ファイス島出土土器およびヤップ島とパラオ島の粘土試料に含まれる鉱物分析を行った。その結果、ヤップ島の粘土鉱物組成は類似しており、ヤップ島で生産された土器を更に村単位で生産地を復原するのは難しいことがわかった。他方、ヤップ島とパラオ島の粘土鉱物組成は互いに異なるので、この2島で作られた土器は鉱物組成鑑定を用いることで区別が可能であることが確認された。
