Research Abstract

ショウジョウバエの新規甘味ニューロンとそこに発現する新規甘味受容体を発見した。このニューロンはこれまで知られているタイプの味覚器と異なる味覚器に分布し、電気生理学的な応答特性においても、また糖に対するリガンド特性においても異なり、さらにこれまでの甘味ニューロンとは別の中枢投射特性を示した。このニューロンを選択的に不活化すると摂食における甘味嗜好性に顕著な変化が現れた。つまりショウジョウバエ味覚システムにおいては受容体、ニューロン、行動のどのレベルにおいても区別できる少なくとも2種類の別個の味質があるという予想外の事実が明らかにされた。
