| Research Abstract |
前立腺肥大症の自然史を明らかにする目的で、北海道島牧村在住の40~79歳の全男性住民を対象に約15年間の縦断的検討を行なった。初回受診者319名のうち185名(58%)が2007年~2008年の再調査時点で生存しており、うち135名(73%)が受診した。経直腸的超音波断層法により判定した前立腺内部構造は将来の前立腺容積の増大を予測する最も強い因子であった。また、前立腺サイズ、下部尿路症状の重症度および最大尿流率の低下は、将来的に前立腺肥大症に対する治療を受けることになる危険因子であることが示された。
