Research Abstract

近年、癌組織中に自己複製と多分化能をもつ幹細胞の存在が明らかとなりその機能について多くの報告がなされている。癌幹細胞は癌の再発、転移に深く関わっていることが報告されている。予後不良の頭頸部癌に対して再発や転移を抑制するために、頭頸部癌における癌幹細胞の同定とその機能を解明することをも目的に研究を行った。その結果、頭頸部癌細胞を用い癌幹細胞としてのSide population(SP)の存在、Clone形成率また幹細胞マーカーも発現を確認した。本研究によって頭頸部癌のSP細胞の存在が確認され、それらが癌幹細胞としての機能を持つことが示唆された。今後それらの因子やマーカーを明らかにすることによって頭頸部癌の治療の進歩が期待できる。
