Research Abstract

Runx2は骨格形成において、骨を作る骨芽細胞の分化に必須の因子であるが、歯牙の形成においては、逆に、象牙質を作る象牙芽細胞の分化に不要の因子であることが本研究により明らかになった。象牙芽細胞にRunx2が発現すると、象牙芽細胞は骨芽細胞の性質を持った細胞に形質転換して、骨様の象牙質を形成する。すなわち、象牙芽細胞が正常に分化して象牙質を形成するためにはRunx2の発現は抑制されなければならない。
