Research Abstract |
We studied a model of synchronous Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammars for machine translation. We developed an experimental synchronous HPSG grammar, and parallel texts annotated with HPSG parse trees. The performance of machine translation with synchronous HPSG was evaluated on newspapers as preliminary experiments. As fundamental studies for machine translation, we also studied deterministic parsing for HPSG, fast and accurate online learning, and reading support of second languages.
