Research Abstract

初期視覚野細胞が示す周辺抑制現象は、テクスチャーなどで定義される高次輪郭線の検出に役立つことが示唆されてきたが、これらの輪郭情報が細胞群全体でどのように表現されているかについてはよくわかっていない。これを調べるため、初期視覚野細胞の古典的受容野および抑制性周辺領域のマップ化を行った。新しい受容野再構成法を用いて解析した結果、多くの細胞において、2つの領域は互いに同じ向きに伸び、その向きや幅は細胞によって異なっていた。以上の結果から、周辺抑制は、高次の輪郭特徴を様々な方位や幅(周波数)に分解して表現する機能をもつと考えられる。
