Research Abstract

多くの神経変性疾患において、神経細胞死に先立ち軸索の変性が生じることが明らかとなっている。本研究から、miltonというミトコンドリアの輸送に関与する遺伝子の異常により、軸索の変性が生じることが明らかとなった。 Miltonはミトコンドリアのみならず、他のたんぱく質の輸送にも関与していることが明らかとなり、軸索内の物流輸送の異常により軸索変性が生じると考えられ、神経変性疾患の発症機構を解明する上で重要な知見と成りうる。
