Research Abstract

海洋の200m 以深、すなわち中層以深は光合成生物にとって生存に必要な光が届かないにも関わらず、本研究により駿河湾と太平洋亜熱帯域の200m〜2000m で微細な光合成生物であるピコ植物プランクトンが深度によらず一定に分布していることが明らかになった。中層以深のピコ植物プランクトンは表層から海底までの水柱全体に対して、春の駿河湾では26〜69%を占めたが、夏の駿河湾と亜熱帯では0.7〜10%に留まり、ピコ植物プランクトンが沈降粒子に付着して中層に輸送されている可能性が示された。
