Research Abstract |
The aim of this research is to understand under what conditions U.S. military presence would begin, end, or endure despite the changes in international structure such as the end of the Cold War. As for the reasons why bases are set up, the power of the United States is crucial. War and occupation are significant factors. As for why U.S. ends its presence, the changes in international structure, changes in the host nations' government, and revolution are important. However, the shift in international structure alone does not lead to the immediately withdrawal of U.S. forces, because the presence would serve as an insurance to deal with security problems that might occur in the transitional period.
