Research Abstract

先カンブリア時代のストロマトライトの縞状構造を3次元的に決定する試料準備方法とデータ解析手法の開発に取り組んだ。その結果、解析に使用したストロマトライト岩石試料の縞模様は、鉛直方向にほぼ一定の厚さを示すのに対して、法線方向には円錐状の縞状構造の頂上部分で最大となる厚さ分布を示すことが明らかとなった。こうした縞状構造の厚さ分布は、シアノバクテリアなどの微生物の皮膜に砂泥が付着して形成されたというストロマトライトの生物起源説を支持する結果となった。
