Research Abstract

始原的隕石中の希ガス濃集部位であるphase Qに類似していると考えられているケロジェン(石炭)は極めて高い希ガス保持力を持っていると研究開始以前では予想されたが、イオン照射実験を行ったところ炭素同素体(高配向焼結グラファイト(HOPG)、アモルファスカーボン、多結晶合成ダイヤモンド、フラーレン、カーボンナノチューブ)やかんらん石、金属鉄と比較して石炭試料のアルゴンの捕獲効率は一桁以上低かったことが判明した。この予想外の事実は、phase Qが炭素質物質であるという説に対して大きな疑問を投げかけるものである。
