Research Abstract |
The preferred sulfur source for bacteria is inorganic sulfate, SO^<2->_4, but in some environments, sulfate may not be freely available. Thus, several soil bacterial species have developed a number of systems that allow the use of various organosulfur compounds, which is called "sulfate-starvation responses (SSR)". By controlling the mechanism of bacterial SSR, we tried to develop a methanesulfonic acid-producing process using the waste water containing dimethylsulfone, used for washing in some electronic industry.
