Research Abstract

近年,咀嚼が認知症の予防法として注目されている。本研究は,脳活動を計測するfMRI・MEGと,脳内の神経連絡を描出するDSIを併用したヒト脳マルチモダリティ計測によって,記憶獲得・想起時における「記憶回路」の解明,そしてこれらにおけるガムチューイングの効果を評価した。その結果,(1)視覚的記憶課題遂行において,一次視覚野を介した脳内記憶回路が存在し,後頭部α波活動が課題遂行における記憶負荷を表すこと,(2)ガムチューイングは,記憶課題遂行に伴う記憶負荷の増加を抑え,記憶活動を長時間,円滑に維持させることが明らかとなった。これらの成果は,廃用性認知症対策としての咀嚼刺激の有用性を裏付けている。
