| Research Abstract |
英語の名詞複数形の-sが現代英語にみられるように圧倒的に優勢となる傾向が現れたのは,初期中英語期(1100~1300年)である.本研究では,電子コーパスや語彙拡散理論を援用しながら,なぜ(WHY)どのようにして(HOW)この時期に-sの拡大が進行したかを明らかにしようとした.結論として,初期中英語期における名詞複数形態の発展は,種々の言語内的・外的要因により,およそ語彙拡散理論が予想する型に従って進行したことが判明した.
