Research Abstract

本研究の目的は、ショウジョウバエの生殖幹細胞を維持する幹細胞ニッチの形成機構を解明することである。これにより、幹細胞システムの成立機構を理解することができると考えられる。そこで本研究では、現在までに私たちが同定したニッチ形成に関与する遺伝子(sevenless (sev)、Notch およびEgfr)等の機能解析を行ってきた。その結果、Notch はニッチ形成を誘導していること、さらに、sev およびEgfr がニッチ形成を阻害していることが明らかとなった。このように、ニッチ形成は拮抗した性質をもつ遺伝子の働きにより、一定した数になるようコントロールされていることが明らかとなってきた。
