Research Abstract |
1. Arrangement of the data on the sites in the southern part of Sakhalin corrected before World War II, and constructing a database of the sites and materials We reexamined the data in the two books, "Archaeological Sites in the south Sakhalin" and "Archaeological material corrected in the south Sakhalin", written by NIIOKA Takehiko and UTAGAWA Hiroshi, which are the fundamental literature in the archaeological study in Sakhalin. Based on these data, we constructed a database of the sites in the southern part of Sakhalin, using FileMaker Pro ver. 8.5 (.fp7). 2. Field survey of the medieval sites in the southern part of Sakhalin To collect new data on the medieval sites, we made a survey of the sites at Ust'-Pugachevo, which is famous for its medieval fort (Maguntan-Dojo). The result of our survey is as follows: 1) At Ust'-Pugachevo, we searched the presumptive location of Maguntan-Dojo, but could not find any traces of the fort. 2) We explored the Pugachevo-32 site on the southern bank of River Pugachevo. The site was measured by A. Vasilevski in 1992, who counted 146 pit dwellings. According to our reexamination, most of the depressions are square in shape, 5〜10m on a side. 3) On the northern bank of River Pugachevo, we measured the Pugachevo-25 site. There are 32 depressions of pit dwellings, 27 of which measured by us. Most of the depressions are square in shape, 6〜8m on a side. 4) In this survey, we could not collect any material to determine the date of the sites Pugachevo-32 and 25.
