| Outline of Research at the Start |
西洋近世から現代、日本と東アジア、東南アジアの近現代を対象に、美術市場の発達、 国際化に関する調査・研究を行う。
1. 地理的にこれまで研究してきた西洋近世・近代に加えて近現代の日本、東/東南アジアをも 研究対象とし、西洋と東洋を包含する国際美術市場の形成・発展を調査・研究する。
2. 美術市場と様々な美術制度との関係をより重点的に研究し、美術作品の価値付与シス テムや流通システムの全体像、歴史的変遷を明らかにする。
3. 美術作品の売買だけでなく貸借市場(展覧会市場)、複製・写真・建築市場など、国際的にも未 開拓な研究領域とも取り組み、今後の研究への道筋をつける。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the art market & art dealer studies, which is unexplored especially in Japan, we started our studies in the first phase by following the advanced Western study methods and results. Based on the results of the first phase, we have undertaken our original studies, expanding the study field from Europe to the world, including Japan and Asia, and attained the level to publish our study results in scholarly journals, books, and conference papers. Today, studies in global and multiple art markets are rapidly progressing in international scholarship, and it is very significant that Japanese scholars are now getting involved in collaborative research.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
美術作品が市場においてどのように取引きされるか、そのメカニズムについて多くの研究成果を得ることができた。作品の売買、貸借がどのような要因によって促進され、どのようにその価格が決まるかについての知見は、美術作品の世界的伝播、価値、価格形成について、また画商、キュレーターなど美術を動かす人々の役割についての理解を深めてくれた。これらの知見は研究上も重要であるが、美術館の運営や文化政策の立案にとっても有益な客観的指標やデータを提供できる点などにおいても重要であり、今後の文化活動全般の推進にとっても大きな意義をもつものである。
