Outline of Research at the Start

縦磁界効果を利用した超伝導直流電力ケーブルを実現することを目的としている。超伝導電力ケーブルは既存の電力ケーブルに比べて小型で大容量にできる特徴があり実用化が期待されている。さらに大容量にするために、本研究では縦磁界効果を利用する。縦磁界とは、ケーブル内の超伝導線の巻き方を工夫して、電流と磁界の方向を平行に近い状態にすることである。本研究では、縦磁界効果を利用した超伝導電力ケーブルの基礎研究を行なう。具体的にはどのような巻線構造にすると最適な縦磁界効果が得られ最大電流を向上させることができるかなどを明らかにする。これにより従来よりも2倍以上の電力容量を持つ10ｋAの電力ケーブルの実現に繋げる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2020年度にロシアのAll-Russian Scientific Research and Development Cable Instituteと共同で作成した縦磁界効果を利用した小型超伝導電力ケーブルについて交流通電を行なって、交流損失測定を行なった結果について、理論的に説明を試みた。有限要素法を用いてケーブルのモデルを作り交流損失の数値計算を行なった。その結果、実験結果についてだいたい説明することができた。
2022年12月から1月にかけて、ロシア人研究者を日本に招聘して、実験や理論についての検討をおこなうことができた。
これら結果については2023年9月にイタリアボローニャで行なわれたThe 16th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity (EUCAS 2023)国際会議においてポスター発表を行なった。この発表では、交流損失と臨界電流密度についての最適化などの議論をすることができた。
このように直流での従来型の超伝導電力ケーブルに対して、縦磁界効果を利用した新型の超伝導電力ケーブルは高い性能を示すことともに、新型の超伝導電力ケーブルにおいて交流通電についても可能性を示すことができた。つまり、臨界電流をできるだけ高くし、同時に交流損失をできるだけ低く抑えるという、難しい最適化について数値計算により検討を行なうことができそうである。
現在、核融合炉の製作のために酸化物超伝導コート線材の大量の製作がすすみ、同時に性能向上も図られてきている。これは縦磁界効果が従来の線材よりもさらに向上することを意味しており、縦磁界効果を利用した新型の超伝導電力ケーブルでも有利に働く。今後、超伝導電力ケーブルが社会実装されるときに巻き方を変えるだけで性能の向上ができる新型の超伝導電力ケーブルは注目されることになるだろう。
