Outline of Research at the Start

深層学習を用いた人工知能技術の発展は著しいが、一方で膨大な消費電力や半導体微細加工技術の限界による現在の計算機技術基盤への課題が顕在化しており、機械学習に適したハードウェアへの要望が高まりつつある。本研究課題では、光リザーバコンピューティングと呼ばれる新たな機械学習方式を用いて、複雑系フォトニクスの解析手法を元に人工脳型ハードウェアとしての可能性を明らかにし、光と複雑系の長所を利用した新たな応用を切り拓くことを目的とする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

近年の人工知能や機械学習に関するソフトウェアの著しい進展は、従来の情報化社会を未知の領域へと導いている。一方でCPUやGPUを搭載した現在のコンピュータを用いた場合、計算速度の限界や大幅な消費電力の増加が大きな課題として顕在化している。近年、機械学習の実装に適した新たなハードウェアの開発が盛んに行われており、リザーバコンピューティングと呼ばれる新たな概念の人工脳型ハードウェアが非常に注目されている。そこで本研究では、光リザーバコンピューティングにおいて複雑系フォトニクスの解析手法を元に、人工脳型ハードウェアとしての可能性を明らかにし、光と複雑系の長所を利用した新たな応用を切り拓くことを目的とする。特に、新たな光コンピュータとしてリザーバコンピューティングを利用する意義や、複雑なダイナミクスを用いる利点を明らかにする。
本年度の研究成果として、深層・並列リザーバコンピューティングを用いた情報処理性能の向上を達成した。特に、情報処理タスクに応じてリザーバの構成方法を最適化する必要があることを発見した。また、光ニューラルフィールドを用いた高密度リザーバコンピューティングの実装実験に成功した。光ニューラルフィールドからノードを抽出することにより、高密度なリザーバを生成することが可能となった。さらに、リザーバコンピューティングを用いた予測と推測を行った。リザーバコンピューティングで学習を行い、クローズドループ構成でダイナミクスの生成を行ったところ、カオス波形の短時間予測に成功した。

Reason

本研究課題は当初の計画通りに進展している。本年度の研究において、深層・並列リザーバコンピューティングを用いた情報処理性能の向上を達成した。また、光ニューラルフィールドを用いた高密度リザーバコンピューティングの実装実験に成功した。さらに、リザーバコンピューティングを用いた予測と推測に成功した。このように多くの研究成果が得られており、順調に研究課題が遂行されている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

今後の研究活動としては、光リザーバコンピューティングのさらなる高性能化に関する研究開発を行う予定である。具体的には、ディープリザーバコンピューティングを用いた情報処理を達成する。また、光ニューラルフィールドの光集積回路の制作とリザーバコンピューティングへの実装を行う。さらに、リザーバコンピューティングを用いたアトラクタの複製を行う予定である。
