| Outline of Research at the Start |
「トランスボーダー日系文学」を次の三つのフェイズに分けて研究する。１）世界的規模で広がる日系人作家による英語文学「グローバル日系英語文学」、２）カズオ・イシグロなど日本生まれで国・言語の境界を超えて活躍する作家の「トランスナショナル日系文学」、３）村上春樹のように日本文学が英語翻訳を通して世界的に受容された「トランスレーショナル（翻訳媒介的）日本文学」。「トランスボーダー日系文学」という新たな研究基盤を構築し、その日本的「固有性」を評価しつつ、さらにそれを超える「世界文学」的普遍性を探求するため、国内外の研究者たちと連携し、グローバルな研究ネットワーク形成を図る。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Although studied in different disciplines such as British/American Literature, Japanese Literature, and Area Studies, our research project "Transborder-Japanese Literature" has innovated three research platforms: 1)"Global Japanese Literature written in English"; 2)"Transnational/Transcultural Japanese Literature"; 3)"Translational Japanese Literature." In order not only to evaluate Japanese originality but also to illuminate the universality of "Transborder-Japanese Literature" as "World Literature," we have organized the relevant researchers in Japan and cooperated with the counterpart overseas for the future apparatus of a global research network.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
この研究プロジェクトの成果として、国際フォーラム「アジア系（アメリカ）文学を世界文学の枠組で再配置する』(2019年9月）を開催し、研究図書『アジア系トランスボーダー文学―アジア系アメリカ文学研究の新地平』（小鳥遊書房, 2021)を刊行したほか、各メンバーが国内外に積極的発信したことによって、これまでの「国民国家」を主軸とした各国文学研究の境界を越えて、よりグローバルに展開することで、「人文学の危機」と言われている昨今の日本の学界において、かつてのプレゼンスを失いつつあるように思われる文学研究（特に英米文学研究）の可能性を広げ、人文学の中心を成す文学研究の社会的意義・意味を社会に発信できた。
