Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、研究代表者らがこれまで確立してきた放射光X線を用いた鉄鋼文化財の非破壊分析技術を日本刀の作刀技法の解明のために応用し、刀剣の専門家や博物館、放射光分析の専門家他と学際的な研究グループを組織し、作者や流派、時代に焦点を絞り5年間で120振を超える価値ある日本刀を体系的に分析することで最終的に日本刀の黄金時代と言われる鎌倉中期の作刀技術を解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、研究代表者らがこれまで確立してきた放射光X線を用いた鉄鋼文化財の非破壊分析技術を日本刀の作刀技法の解明のために応用し、刀剣の専門家や博物館、放射光分析の専門家他と学際的な研究グループを組織し、作者や流派、時代に焦点を絞り5年間で120振を超える価値ある日本刀を体系的に分析することで最終的に日本刀の黄金時代と言われる鎌倉中期の作刀技術を解明することを目的としている。最終年度の本年度は当初の計画通り、幅広い時代に制作された日本刀の調査を行うことが出来た。１年目には地鉄や作刀技術に特徴のある日本刀の分析を、２年目には室町時代以降の日本刀のなかでも新刀、新新刀ならびに現代刀を中心に分析を行った。３年目以降、最終年度の本年度まで、日本刀の最高峰と言われる鎌倉時代中期の日本刀を中心にX線CT分析に取り組んだ。具体的には相州（正宗）、山城（粟田口派、来派）、備前（一文字派）の各地域の日本刀の名刀を分析し、時代、地域、作家ごとの日本刀の内部構造・制作技術の違いの検証を行った。最終年度の本年度は、それに加え鎌倉時代前後の時代の刀剣の分析にも集中的に取り組んだ（SPring-8課題番号2023A1387、2023B1331）。また、日本刀との比較の為、日本刀が成立する以前の出土刀剣の分析も行うことが出来た。最終的に、目的としていた120振を超える日本刀の体系的な非破壊分析を達成した。X線CT分析により得られた結果について研究分担者、研究協力者をはじめとする各分野の専門家達と議論し、作刀技術の解明にむけた多角的な考察を行った。放射光を用いた文化財研究の第一人者であるオランダ・デルフト工科大学のJoris Dik先生と本研究手法ならびに成果の今後の可能性について意見を交換すると共に研究連携に向けた打ち合わせも行った。研究成果の一部は国際会議などで発表すると共に論文化の準備を進めた。
