| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、津波の到達点を示す津波碑、水害発生地点を示す水害碑等、災害の記憶を継承警告する自然災害伝承碑を市民協同で調査する仕組みを構築することを目的とする。
手法としては、安価でありふれた機材(懐中電灯・スマートフォン・三脚)で誰でも簡単に素早く金石文の拓本画像が撮れる光拓本の技術を一般向けにソフトウェアとして公開する。
さらに自然災害伝承碑の拓本調査を教育委員会や高校教諭と共に企画し、広く市民の参加を募り、手法の普及を図る。最終的には市民の自主調査が集約されるシステムの公開を目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research is to investigate natural disaster tradition monuments using citizen science methods. As a method, we developed an application "Hikari Takuhon," an image processing technology that allows anyone to easily visualize letters engraved on stone monuments.
In addition, together with the Board of Education and high school teachers, we planned a regional survey and implemented the following dissemination activities. (1) Support and provision of equipment for surveys of local stone structures, such as monuments that carry on the traditions of natural disasters, as part of community studies for elementary to high school students, (2) Technical support for stone structure survey teams organized by local governments, (3) Training sessions for local government officials, (4) Lectures and workshops at university laboratories, and (5) Introduction of the technology to the mass media.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究により確立した「ひかり拓本」により、誰でも気軽に、そして特殊な機材を使用せずに石碑の文字を可視化が可能となる。結果、これまでは読もうとしてもなかなか読めなかった、然災害伝承碑に刻まれた災害情報が、市民自身の手により可視化、データ化される。
さらに、読みやすくなった碑文の画像を活用することで、行政から市民へパンフレットなどを用いた啓発、学校教育を通して生徒へ、生徒から家庭内といった、災害の記憶を地域で共有する取り組みが容易に構築可能となる。
本研究が示した災害の記憶のデータ化から活用までの仕組みが今後各地に普及することで、地域の防災意識が市民自身の手によって醸成されることが期待される。
