日本を含めたアジアにおいて、どのような社会的条件のもとで人びとは幸せと感じるのかを明らかにする。欧米諸国と比べてアジア諸国では、家族・親族、地域、宗教集団などの絆が強いのが特徴とされており、これまでの人生の中でどのくらいこうした人間関係に恵まれてきたかが幸福感に影響を与えると予想される。日本・韓国・台湾・モンゴル・タイ・インドネシア・フィリピン・ベトナムの研究者が協力し、各国で一般の人びとを対象とした詳しいインタビュー調査をおこない、アジアに共通する幸福の条件と、国ごとの細かい違いを調べる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project investigated how events and social capital over the life course affected subjective well-being and its changes in eight Asian societies, including Japan, through a semi-structured interview with international collaborators. The most critical factor in these Asian societies was family relations, such as marriage, childrearing, and caring. Apart from this commonality, we also observed differences between societies, such as family succession and gender norms.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
幸福にかんする国際比較可能なアンケート調査のデータはすでに存在するが、インタビュー調査のデータはほとんど存在しなかった。この研究でおこなったインタビュー調査のデータは、将来研究者向けに公開する予定である。また、東南アジアやモンゴルを含む地域のデータも希少である。アジアにおいて家族とのかかわりが幸福に大きな影響を与えていることは、少子高齢化が急速に進行するこれからの時代に国家が何をするべきかを検討するための前提となるだろう。
