| Outline of Research at the Start |
2020～2021年度については、2019年度の（1）～（3）について、質的・量的データを積み上げていく。とりわけ企業立学校については、より広い地方における地域産業との関連で、その意義を考察する。さらに、理論的課題である、社会的課題と職業教育訓練の接合の可能性について、石井・宮本・阿部『地方に生きる若者たち』（旬報社、2017）を批判的に検討しながら進めていく。
同時に、2020年度からは対象を東アジア諸地域に徐々に拡大していく。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study clarified how vocational education and training can contribute to the solution of the structure of the contemporary problems of rural areas and community in Japan: declining local industries, population decline, and labor shortages. Specifically, we have researched in three areas. These include (1) a survey on the role and policies of vocational schools and junior colleges in rural areas, (2) collection of materials on the historical and contemporary significance of in-house schools and professionals, and (3) a survey on the issues faced by local industries and vocational education and training.
Similar challenges are becoming more acute in South Korea. We also clarified the new role of regional industries and vocational universities in Korea.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
これまでの関連学術領域ー教育学、教育社会学、産業社会学、労働経済論ーなどにおいても職業教育訓練の現代的役割についての考察はかなり手薄であった。しかも地域社会、地域産業との関連において果たすべき役割についての考察はほぼ手付かずであった。本研究が目的としたのはこうした意味でストレートに学術的意義と社会的意義の両方を持つ研究である。とりわけ人口減少、労働力不足が叫ばれる現代日本においてこの研究の持つ社会的意義は極めて大きい。また、同様の課題はより鋭く韓国においても現れており、研究の幅を広げたことの意義はさらに大きい。
