Outline of Research at the Start

フェルミ面トポロジーの変化点では、電子状態密度にvan Hove特異点が形成され、マクロな固体電子物性量に相転移が生じる。本研究では、面直電場によりトポロジーが変調可能な三層グラフェンに着目し、単層グラフェンと結晶方位をずらして重ねたTwistedトンネル接合により、運動量空間において互いのバンド構造がシフトしたトンネル素子を作製する。運動量保存による共鳴トンネルを利用し、輸送特性測定によって、エネルギー(E)・運動量(k)・スピン(σ)・ランダウ準位の観点から、三層グラフェンのバンドトポロジーを明らかにする。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we fabricated twist-controlled van der Waals tunneling devices with a band structure shift in momentum space. By measuring the resonant tunneling with momentum conservation, we determined the energy (E), momentum (k), electronic density of states of two-dimensional materials; trilayer graphene, twisted bilayer graphene, and multilayer transition metal chalcogenides.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

結晶方位をTwistして積み重ねることが可能な材料には、グラフェン以外にも多様な原子層物質が存在する。これまで原子層物質のバンド構造を決定するために用いられてきた面内輸送特性測定では、フェルミ面近傍の情報しか得られず、角度分解光電子分光では、エネルギー(10 meV)・運動量(0.01Å-1)分解能が限られ、走査型トンネル分光は運動量空間の分解能が無かった。本研究では、単一の固体素子内の電気伝導測定のみによって、エネルギー(1meV)・運動量(0.001 1/Å)の両方向で高い分解能が実現する技術を確立した。二次元結晶を舞台とした多様な新奇電子物性探求が可能となった。
