Outline of Research at the Start

流体界面が、ちぎれたり、合一したりして、界面に特異な形が現れる特異動力学現象は、一見全く異なる臨界現象と呼ばれる現象との類似性もあり、物理学者や応用数学者の注目を集めてきているが、その数理にはまだ未解明な点が多い。本代表者は最近、独自に擬二次元系での研究を実験・理論の両面から展開し数々の成果を上げてきた。本研究では、このように特有な性質を持つ擬二次元系に着目し、これまでの研究をさらに発展させ、実験と理論を行き来しつつスケーリング則と呼ばれるシンプルな法則を確立し、次元性・対称性に着目して、流体界面の特異動力学の数理構造の普遍性を解明し、また、スケーリング則の確立を目指した種々の研究も展開する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

流体界面が、ちぎれたり、合一したりして、界面形状に特異な形状が現れる特異動力学現象は、相転移における臨界現象との類似性もあり、多くの物理学者や応用数学者の注目を集めてきている。本代表者は最近、擬二次元系での研究を実験・理論の両面から展開し数々の成果を上げてきた。本研究では、これらの研究を受け、次元性・対称性に着目し、閉じ込められた空間において、流体界面や滴やバブルの動力学に関する研究を進める。実験と理論を行き来しつつスケーリング則を確立することで物理現象の普遍性を解明することに力点を置き、同様の手法で種々の物理現象も幅広く研究する。本年度は、以下の進展があった。
（１）固体ディスクによる粘性液体への空気の引き込み現象：引きちぎれる気体がシート状の場合とコーン状の場合があり、本年度は、コーン状の場合についての論文がPhys.Rev.Research誌での発表に至った。セルの厚みを系統的に変える実験にも着手した。
（２）擬二次元の液中液滴の融合の動力学：　融合の初期に着目して、条件を変えて実験を進めた結果、初期の動力学は粘性ではなく慣性が支配していることがわかってきていたが、本年度はその成果をJ.Phys.Soc.Jpnで発表した。また、項目に関連する海外との共同研究も進め国際会議での発表も行った。
（３）そのほか：擬二次元のセル中でのバブルの破裂・生成・上昇の動力学に関する実験・理論・シミュレーションによる研究も継続し、成果を物理学会で発表した。毛管上昇の基礎的な問題についても成果を会議等で発表した。本研究の精神で行った疑二次元粉粒体系の論文も論文誌にさらに成果を発表した。R03年4月から1年の月刊誌連載で、一般読者に向け本研究の内容に関連するエッセイを発表した。

内外の学会等で16件の成果を発表（うち6件が国際会議）し、国際学術誌の査読付きの論文の発表が3報あり、一般市民向けのエッセイ連載も行った。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

新型コロナウィルスの流行による種々の活動の制限があるが、研究メンバーでローテーションを組んで、密な状態を作らないように工夫をして、計画通りに研究を進めてきている。今後も、このように工夫をしてアクティビティを保つ。
