Outline of Research at the Start

宇宙プラズマ環境変動の予測において計算機シミュレーションは今後不可欠な手段となる。既存の磁気流体力学(MHD)方程式に基づくプラズマ流体シミュレーションでは、慣性効果、圧力テンソルの非対角成分、熱輸送テンソルや四次以上の高次モーメント量などの非MHD項は無視されている。本研究では、第一原理運動論プラズマシミュレーションと流体ミュレーションとの直接比較によって、非MHD項である高次モーメント量が従来のMHD量に対してどのくらいの強度を持つのかを定量的に評価し、非MHD項の各項の重要性を議論する。また高次モーメント量を導入した新たな電磁流体方程式系を導出し、その数値シミュレーション手法を開発する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

FDTD法を用いた電磁場シミュレーションにおいて、これまで空間2次精度の差分が50年以上にわたって用いられてきた。しかし、急峻な変化を持つ波形において数値が発生するという問題点があり、これは空間差分の精度を上げることによって抑制できることが知られていた。一方で、空間差分の精度を上げるをクーラン条件が厳しくなるという問題点もあった。本年度は、時間発展式に高階差分項を付加することによって、空間差分を4次精度化し、同時にクーラン条件も緩和する新たなFDTD法の開発に成功した。
PIC法を用いたプラズマ粒子シミュレーションにおいて、運動方程式の数値解法としてこれまでBorisが50年以上にわたって用いられてきた。しかし、相対論的ローレンツ因子が大きくなるにつれて、磁場を横切るドリフト速度に大きな誤差が生じるという問題点があった。本年度は、荷電粒子の相対論的運動方程式の理論解に基づいた時間発展式を導出し、磁場を横切るドリフト速度を正確に与える新たな数値解法の開発に成功した。
PIC法を用いたプラズマ粒子シミュレーションにおいて、電流密度計算のスレッド並列化の際に“リダクション”と呼ばれるスレッド間のプライベート配列を共有配列にまとめる演算が用いられてきた。しかし、リダクション演算では個々のスレッドがライベート配列を持つため、スレッド数が増加するにつれて使用メモリ量が増加し、また共有配列にまとめる計算量も増加するため、スケーラビリティが低下するという問題点があった。本年度は、ループブロッキングによるマルチカラー法に基づいて計算順序を変更することによって、個々のスレッドが共通配列のデータを更新する際のアクセス競合を抑制し、スレッド並列化の際に高いスケーラビリティを実現することに成功した。

Reason

運動論シミュレーションコードについては、新手法の開発や高速化、高精度化が順調に進んでいる。
一方で、電磁流体シミュレーションについては、4次モーメントまでを含んだ電磁流体方程式を導出し、計算手法の検討を行っている最中である。既存の近似リーマン解法の問題点を克服するために、新たに流速ベクトル分離法に基づいたコード開発を進めているが、数値振動の抑制に手間取っている。また、磁場の無発散条件を満たすためにstaggered格子系を用いる必要があるが、最低計算精度の次数が2次になるために生じる数値振動を抑える手法の構築に手間取っている。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

通常の流体方程式では無視されている高次モーメント量の時間発展を含んだ新たな電磁流体方程式系について、その数値計算手法の更なる検討を行う。特に、多次元空間において磁場に対するガウスの法則（磁場の無発散）を満たすため、staggered格子系を導入した新たな数値計算スキームの開発を目指す。電磁流体方程式系には、自身の物理量の輸送を表す移流方程式と、波動の伝搬を表す方程式が混在している。このうち、前者の移流方程式は、Vlasovシミュレーションで用いている高精度保存型無振動スキームを用いることができるが、不連続構造における数値振動を抑制するために、流速ベクトル分離法に基づいた風上法を導入する。
一方、後者の波動方程式は、電磁場ソルバーであるFinite-Difference-Time-Domain(FDTD)法について、前年度に開発した手法の適用が可能であるが、伝搬角に依存した数値誤差を抑制するための新たな時間発展式の導出を行う。さらに、数値振動を抑制する方法は提案されていないため、FDTD法の無振動化を行い、電磁流体方程式に導入することを目指す。
また、流体シミュレーションとの比較のための、運動論(Particle-In-Cell及びVlasov)シミュレーションコードの更なる高精度・高効率手法の開発も併せて行う。特に、前年度に開発した新たな相対論的運動方程式の数値解法について、Runge-Kutta法と組み合わせることにより高次精度化を行う。
