Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

A microscopic traffic simulator that reproduces HDV and AV behavior at signalized intersections was developed. By using this simulator, mixed AV traffic flows under various scenarios were reproduced and their effects on safety and capacity were analyzed. For AV, three types of aAV, nAV, and dAV with different behavior characteristics were assumed. Although it is possible to increase the capacity by setting various parameters of AV, it was quantitatively shown that the index value related to the safety evaluation tends to shift to the dangerous side at that time. If the current traffic flow level of HDV only is maintained, the dAV rate is 100%, the safety evaluation index is improved by 30.6%, and if the safety is maintained at the same level as the current level, it was shown that aAV improves capacity by about 37%.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
