Outline of Research at the Start |

Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research project, we successfully manufactured high-performance organic thin-film transistors (TFTs) based on our original methodology for fabricating single-crystal thin films of organic semiconductors (OSCs) with homogeneous thickness. In this technique, we utilized layered OSCs composed of a π-electron framework (π-core) and an alkyl chain. We investigated that the intralayer molecular packing of the OSC layer, responsible for carrier transport, is predetermined by the competition and balance between the intermolecular core-core and chain-chain interactions. Based on the findings, we developed new OSCs with excellent layered crystallinity and thermal stability. We also invented a technique to produce a uniform semiconductor layer on a surface of a highly lyophobic insulating layer. This technique enables to obtain TFTs showing extremely sharp on/off switching. These findings have made it possible to achieve both efficient carrier transport and stable device operation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
