Outline of Research at the Start

途上国の森林で住民が日常的に採取する食料は栄養価が高い場合があるが、そのような食料による健康維持効果が検証されるより先に、森林そのものが減少している。そこで本研究は、カンボジア王国の森林保護区とその周辺を研究対象とし、森林保全が住民の摂取栄養素の多様性維持と子どもの栄養状態の改善に寄与するか検証する。この検証のために、サンプル世帯の食事摂取状況と摂取栄養素の多様性を把握する調査や同世帯の子どもの身体計測を行う。本研究の成果は、国連持続可能な開発目標（SDGs）だけでなく貧困、保健課題を追究するための重要な知見を与える。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

カンボジア王国の森林保護区とその周辺で民間が実施するREDD+プロジェクトの森林減少抑制効果を高めるため、プロジェクト対象地域で違法伐採対策を優先的に行う区域の分布を予測する手法を開発した。

我が国のJCM-REDD+プロジェクト対象地のプレイロング野生生物保護区および周辺の森林は、住民の生計維持に不可欠なフタバガキ科樹木の樹脂の供給源だが、森林減少や違法伐採に晒されている。樹脂採取世帯に対する早急な救済措置や違法伐採予防策が必要だが、森林減少・劣化に脆弱な樹脂採取世帯がどのあたりに分布し、違法伐採対策を優先的に行う区域はどこかを予測する研究が不足していた。そこで、本研究では、森林減少地を把握するためのリモートセンシング技術と森林減少前後の地域住民の職業、樹脂の採取場所や採取しやすさの変化とその原因等を調べるための世帯調査を組み合わせ、森林減少や違法択伐により樹脂採取からの現金収入が減った世帯が多い区域と、そのような脅威から樹脂採取業を守るために違法伐採対策を優先的に実施するべき区域を予測したマップを作成した。政府やプロジェクト実施者は得られたマップを用いることで、森林減少で困窮する天然樹脂採取世帯のいる村や採取環境を維持する必要があるエリアへの応急的な救済・違法伐採予防措置を行政区界ごとに現場の実態に合わせ検討できるようになる。
