Outline of Research at the Start

中性子を用いた磁気構造解析法に支えられ既知のスピン協力現象の理解は進み,未踏の極限環境下や新物質に未知の現象を探索し,あるいは既に確立した知見を磁性材料に利用する動きが進んでいる.そこで,本研究では,この新たな潮流における磁気構造解析法のニーズに上手く応えられる手法としての,従来の回折法にはない,回折波の発生を透過波の減少で検出する中性子透過スペクトル分光法の可能性を明らかとする.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Magnetic materials with unprecedentedly complex spin arrangements are currently being developed. In this study, neutron transmission spectroscopy was developed as a novel evaluation method for these new materials and devices incorporating them, and its effectiveness was demonstrated through demonstration experiments using actual materials and devices as models.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

近世の羅針盤,近代工業社会を支えた発電機・モーター,現代情報社会の基盤である磁気記録は,天然磁石,人工合成バルク磁石,超微細製造磁石と違いはあっても,いずれも全てのスピンの向きが同じ方向に揃った単純な強磁性体であり,全体の平均磁化を測るだけで評価できた.しかし,最近,高度化する社会に対応するため複雑なスピン配列の特異な性質を利用した革新的な磁性材料の開発が始まっている.そこで,本研究では,そうした新材料の評価法として中性子透過分光法に注目し,実際の材料・デバイスをモデルにした実証実験により,その有効性を実証した.今後,新手法の本格的な適用により磁性材料の革新はより加速していくと考えられる.
