Outline of Research at the Start

世界初の本格金星気象撮像探査機「あかつき」の軌道投入以前、金星大気の観測は断片的であり、数値モデルには仮定が多く、スーパーローテーション(四日循環)の存在に象徴される金星大気の循環構造はほとんど未知であった。本研究では、我々が開発を進めてきた地球シミュレータ上の金星大気大循環モデル(AFES-Venus)を元に金星大気データ同化システム(ALEDAS-V)を構成し、「あかつき」観測と矛盾せず力学的に辻褄のあった金星大気循環場の生成を試みる。金星大気中の未知な擾乱を同定し、その分布と角運動量輸送、物質輸送と雲構造などを明らかにしスーパーローテーションにいたる金星大気大循環の構造を解明する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

観測継続中の「あかつき」からのデータ生成更新を継続し、紫外(UV)観測2波長データから二酸化硫黄濃度を求める手法、赤外(IR)データから熱放射を積算し微弱な山岳波の構造を抽出する手法を開発した。また、電波掩蔽データには電波ホログラフィ法を用い高鉛直分解能温度データを生成することに成功した。モデルの改良とデータ同化の標的とするための特徴量抽出としては、下・中層雲分布を可視化する近赤外(IR1)夜間データに見出された金星観測史上最大規模の直径千kmを超える渦構造を解析し、順圧不安定起源である可能性を示した。
力学モデル開発と数値実験に関しては、引き続き4~5日周期の大規模波動擾乱に着目したパラメタ検討と解析をすすめ、ケルビン波と中高緯度ロスビー波の不安定結合の多重性や間欠性の存在を明らかにした。この波動構造は赤道向角運動量輸送に寄与するため、金星大気の超回転構造維持とその変動への寄与が示唆された。
力学的データ同化に関しては、中間赤外(LIR)からの温度データ同化実験を行った。データ同化システムを活用して擾乱の成長度(Bred Vector)解析では雲層擾乱を特定した。一方、同化データは熱潮汐波の位相を改善するが、超回転の構造を大きく変化させるという結果を得た。観測システムシミュレーション実験(OSSE)としては、中高緯度ロスビー波の解析可能性や将来探査を想定した衛星間電波掩蔽観測の可能性を検討する実験を行った。
雲と放射モデルに関しては、簡略子午面モデルでテストした雲・化学モデルをAFES-Venus(金星大気大循環モデル)に組み込み、雲水や大気微量成分の分布計算を実現、予備的な数値実験でコードの動作を確認した.金星大気放射伝達モデルも鉛直1次元版の試験が完了し、大循環モデルへの組み込みと計算試験に入った。画像データ同化に至るべく同化アルゴリズムの検討を進めた。

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

[観測と解析]「あかつき」データの精錬と大気諸相の特徴抽出は順調に進んでいる。「あかつき」撮像データと電波掩蔽データから化学物質や大気波動の振幅などの大気物理量を導出する手法も新たに加えられた。一方、「あかつき」により、中下層雲帯の流れは変動性が低いという以前の描像が覆されてきているが、大規模渦の解析が示唆する流れの不安定構造の存在をその重要な特徴として加えることができた。
[データ同化システム (ALEDAS-V)] 力学モデルを用いた同化システムは順調に稼働している。データ同化システムを用いた Bred Vector 解析により擾乱の発達を切り出すこともできた。雲と放射モデルの実装実験が遅れたため、未だ画像データ同化には着手できていないが,データ同化手法に関する検討は進められた。
[モデル(AFES-Venus)開発と同化実験]力学モデルの開発と数値実験は順調に進められており、特に、短周期大規模擾乱の波動構造理解は大きく進展した。力学同化実験に関しては、雲跡風ベクトルデータのみならずLIRデータからの温度データを同化する実験に着手することができた。また、観測システムシミュレーション実験(OSSE)としては、今後の金星探査ミッションの提案に向けた小型衛星間電波掩蔽を評価することや、短周期擾乱のデータ同化による再現を評価することなどの経験を積むことができた。雲(物質循環)・放射モデルの開発と実装は遅れているが、放射モデルの一通りの完成を得るともに、新たな研究員を得て雲・放射モデルの3次元モデル実装試験に着手することができた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

「あかつき」観測に引き続き寄与しその解析に貢献することで観測からの情報を増やすこと、一方、モデル(AFES-Venus)の開発と数値実験を進めモデル金星大気の振る舞いを掌握すること、観測とモデルを接続するデータ同化システム(ALEDAS-V)の開発と改良を進めること、以上を再帰的に進めることによって「『あかつき』金星気象データセット」に至り、大気擾乱の存在と構造、物質輸送と雲構造を探求し、金星大気の子午面循環と角運動量輸送・超回転の謎解明に資する。幸運なことに「あかつき」観測は継続しており、10年スケールの長期変動の解析も視野に入ってきており、超回転や大規模波動スペクトル等の長期変化も標的になりつつある。
力学モデルの開発と数値実験は比較的順調であり、LIRからの温度データを用いたデータ同化金星大気解析データセットの生成が実現できるだろう。一方、遅れている雲・放射モデルを組み込んだ大循環モデルによる数値実験と、さらに、画像データを用いたデータ同化の試行を研究期間内に実現し、「『あかつき』金星気象データセット」に雲・放射モデルを使ったデータを提供することを目指す。
本研究は、世界初の金星大気データ同化研究であり、金星大気研究におけるデータ同化手法の可能性をできうる限り示し、解析データの生成ならびにそれを用いての研究の礎となること、それによって、惑星大気に対するデータ同化研究の展開につなげることを目指す。
