Outline of Research at the Start

量子コンピュータは次世代の情報処理の中心を担うと考えられ、信頼性のあるハードウェア開発は喫緊の課題である。情報の単位は量子ビットとよばれ現行のビットと異なりその量子的重ね合わせが重要であるため、量子ビットの相互作用を制御しながら空間的に配置することに技術的困難がある。量子ビットとしてスピンはその有力候補である。スピンの精密状態測定は、大きなスピンの集団についてESRやNMRといった手法で行われてきたが、ナノスケールデバイスでは感度不足で用いることができず、それに代わる単一スピン単位での精密測定手法の開発が急務であり、本研究はその開発に貢献できる。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

研究成果の概要
量子コンピューターの物理的単位を担うキュービット(qubit)の開発競争が高まっており、その開発は喫緊の課題である。分子スピンをキュービットとして用いた量子情報処理のデモンストレーション(ショアのアルゴリズム)はすでに2000年に行われており、他のqubit候補に対する優位性は示されている。それには分子の優れた特性と電子スピン共鳴(ESR)・核磁気共鳴(NMR)電子機器の精度の高さが成功の理由としてあげられる。しかし、測定には10億個の分子の集団が要求され、大型なESR/NMR装置が必要なことと合わせて、次世代の量子コンピューター利用には課題が残る。その解決のため、単一分子に電流を用いてESR/NMRと同様の量子操作が行えれば、分子スピンは一挙にqubitの最有力候補となる可能性を持つ。本実験では単分子で磁石のようにスピンの方向を保持できる単分子磁石、テルビウム・フタロシアニン錯体(TbPc2)分子を用いて、磁場中に置かれたトンネル接合にラジオ波(RF波)を入射しその共鳴を得ることで、単分子について従来のESRと同等の信号を得ることに成功し、分子の結晶で得られるESR情報とは異なる単分子の化学状態を観察した。本手法は量子コンピューターに応用するのに十分なエネルギー精度をもっており電流を用いた分子スピンのキュービット応用への道をひらくと期待される。具体的には単分子で磁石の性質を示す単分子磁石である、テルビウム(Tb)原子を上下から環状化合物のフタロシアニン(Pc)配位子でサンドイッチした分子(TbPc2分子)を用い、磁場中のトンネル接合に配置し、RF波を入射することで、従来化学分析に用いられるESRと同等のエネルギー精度を持つ信号を単一分子から検出することに成功した。結果はACS NanoLettersに掲載され、新聞発表が取り上げられるなど反響を集めた。

Reason


ESR手法は化学のスピン分析の標準的な手法として広く用いられ、かつエネルギー分解能やスピンの制御精度は非常に高く、すでに量子コンピューターに用いるに十分であることが実証されている。しかし多数ビットや小型化に対応するためには、必要とされる分子が多数すぎる(10億個以上)ことや、装置が大型であるなどの課題が、次世代の量子コンピューターへの応用を阻害している。本年度、我々は単一分子磁石であるTbPc2分子を目標分子として、走査型トンネル顕微鏡を利用した、トンネル接合におかれた一個の分子に対するESR信号を得ることに成功した。トンネル電位にRF信号が印加されており、NaCl薄膜の上に蒸着されたTbPc2分子をサンプルに用いた。RFの周波数を掃引すると共鳴位置にトンネル電流に鋭いピークが出現した。共鳴周波数には明瞭な磁場依存性が観察され、単一分子のESR分析に成功した。今回の発見は、非局在のパイ起動ラジカルからの信号を世界に先駆けて報告したこと、および従来用いられたMgO基盤ではなく一般的に利用しやすいNaCl薄膜を基盤として用いてスペクトルの取得に成功しており、電流を用いた分子のESR信号取得をより広い系に適用可能であることを実証したことでより巾広い系への適用可能となった。このことは我々の測定対象が広がっただけでなく、当該分野全体への波及効果は計り知れない。磁気共鳴は様々な場面で化学分析に用いられ、特に医療の分野ではMRIはすでに欠かせない手法となっている。しかし必要とされるスピンの数の多さや、空間分解能には多くの課題がある。単一分子ESRはこれらの課題を解決する手法として考えられ、同時に、分子スピンのキュービット応用への幅広い利用の可能性が期待される。これらのことを考慮して研究計画は期待以上に進行していると判断した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究の分子スピンを用いた量子ビット技術の確立には、単分子に対する原子分解能を持った化学分析をESR・NMRと同等のエネルギー分解能を行うことが基本となる。2022年度には電流を用いたスピン化学分析手法を開発した。高周波RF信号をトンネルジャンクシンに照射する技術を確立し、量子ビットとして期待される単分子磁石のフタロシアニン配位子に存在するラジカルのスピンを、磁場中でRFの特定の周波数で共鳴するESR原理を利用して検出に成功し。その結果はACS Nano Lettersに発表し、多くの反響を得た。本年度には超伝導体である鉛薄膜表面に単一分子磁石を吸着させ、Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR)状態を用い、磁場およびRFとの組み合わせにより高い化学状態分析への応用を開発する。YSR状態がRFの照射と、磁場の印加によって、共鳴状態を形成させ、スピンの量子操作を実現する。具体的には単分子磁石である、TbPc2分子のTb核スピン由来のスピンに由
来するYSR状態とその共鳴状態を調べることでその目標を実現する。またRFアンテナを世界に先駆けて設計し、RF波のポンプ・プローブ検知を行おうとしている。対象として核スピンの多重性を利用し、QUBITに比較して多値化により多くの情報が処理できるQUDITの生成を目指す。量子ゲート操作には共同研究者の大阪市大・佐藤が多くの経験を持っているので技術交換を入念に行う。同時に共同研究者の東北大・橋本はRF波を用いて核スピン励起を行いデバイスを用いてそれを電流で読み取
る研究を行っており、本プロジェクトでも分子と組み合わせた原子層FETデバイスの構築を行っていることから、より明瞭な出口に向けてデバイス応用にも努力を行う。城西大学加藤は単分子磁石を中心としたスピンキュービットの基本となる磁性分子の設計・合成を行う.
