Outline of Research at the Start

本課題の目的は、現代宇宙論に残された問題点を検証することで重力の基礎理論のもつ基本性質を検証することである。具体的には時空を記述する幾何に注目し、重力理論をスピン2の場の理論と解釈した場合と曲がった時空の理論として解釈した場合で有効理論に現れる相互作用にどのような違いが現れるかを明らかにする。また、散乱振幅の議論を用いて、ローレンツ不変性などといった基礎物理のいくつかの性質が有効理論の相互作用に与える制限を導く。どちらの課題においても理論的な定式化が終了した後には具体的な模型に基づいた現象論を解析し、実際の観測によって上記らの基礎理論から得られる予言が検証可能かまで一貫して行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

一般相対論の正しさは太陽系実験や重力波観測により確かなものとなっているが、一般相対論自体は究極の物理法則ではなく、背後に潜む量子重力理論の低エネルギー有効理論であると広く理解されている。理論物理学のゴールの1つである量子重力理論の正体に迫るためには、幅広いエネルギースケールでの重力理論の検証及び実際に検証される低エネルギー有効理論と量子重力理論の関係を明らかにする必要がある。本課題では散乱振幅のユニタリー性といった基本性質から得られる整合性条件である正値性条件を用いて、素粒子標準模型と一般相対論の整合性条件を調査した。その結果、素粒子標準模型と一般相対論の正しさは10^16 GeVよりも低いエネルギースケールにおいて新物理が存在しなければならないことを示唆することが明らかとなった。一方、宇宙にはインフレーションやダークエネルギーといった標準物理では説明できない未解決問題が見つかっており、これらの正体を明らかにするために様々な実験・観測が行われている。正値性条件はインフレーション、ダークエネルギーなどを説明する宇宙論的有効理論と量子重力理論の間の整合性条件を導くと期待されるが、様々な理論的難解さにより両者の間の整合性条件を導くことは現状できていない。このような状況のため本課題ではトイモデルとして具体的な基礎理論のそこから得られる宇宙論的有効理論の間にある整合性条件を詳細に調べ、その結果、通常の正値性条件から期待される条件は宇宙論的有効理論においては成り立たないことを発見した。しかしながら、基礎理論と宇宙論的有効理論の間には確かに非自明な整合性条件が存在しており、様々な現象論的示唆を導くことを明らかにした。その他にも宇宙論的有効理論の新たな定式化といった研究に取り組んだ。
