Outline of Research at the Start

赤方偏移z>4銀河の金属量の赤方偏移進化の検証とアウトフロー効率の測定を行う。さらに、本研究で得られる金属量とアウトフローの観測結果と、これまでの渡した市の研究で得た星形成とインフローの観測結果を、赤方偏移進化を取り扱うモデルを構築することで融合し、宇宙初期から現在までの銀河の化学進化史を調査する。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2019年に引き続きUniversity College Londonに滞在し、Richard Ellis教授やNicolas Laporte氏らと遠方銀河の金属吸収線についての研究を進め、主著論文を執筆した (Harikane et al. 2020b)。我々の研究によってz~6の非常に明るい遠方銀河はCII1334といった低電離金属吸収線が深く、暗い銀河に比べて中性ガスのcovering fractionが大きいことがわかった。これはこのような明るい銀河の電離光子脱出率が低く、宇宙再電離への寄与が限定的であったことを示唆している。またstellar, ISMの金属吸収線を星種族合成モデルやより近傍で得られた経験則と比較することで、これらの明るいz~6の銀河はすでに化学進化が進んでいることが示唆された。本研究の結果については論文の出版に加えて、天文学会秋期年会で口頭発表を行った。
また、昨年進めたALMAを使った化学進化の研究については論文が出版され (Harikane et al. 2020a)、初代星・初代銀河研究会での招待講演や、2つの国際会議での口頭講演 (Covid-19のためzoomで開催) で研究内容について発表した。
さらに、これらの遠方宇宙における化学進化の研究をさらに発展させるために、James Webb Space Telescopeのcycle 1観測提案募集に提案書を提出し、2本の提案書が受理された。うち1本はカルフォルニア大学のRyan Sanders氏との共同提案である。

Reason

化学進化研究を進める上で、静止系可視の金属輝線を調べることができるJames Webb Space Telescopeは非常に重要な望遠鏡である。James Webb Space Telescopeのcycle 1の観測提案2本 (両方ともPI) が受理され、うち1本は化学進化研究のエキスパートであるカルフォルニア大学のRyan Sanders氏との共同提案であること等を踏まえると、本研究の発展に大きく確かな道筋がついたと判断できるため。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

James Webb Space Telescopeによって取得されるデータを用いて、遠方宇宙における金属量の赤方偏移進化の検証を行う。またALMAを使って遠赤外の方面からも引き続き化学進化を探る。
