Outline of Research at the Start

これまで検出されている重力波は全てブラックホールもしくは中性子星の連星合体事象であり、雑音波形と理論計算による重力波信号波形を用いて解析されている。一方、超新星爆発などに代表されるパルス状の重力波(バースト波)はいまだ未発見である。このような事象は理論予測が困難であり、突発性雑音が信号に誤同定される。
本研究は、2022年頃を予定しているKAGRAの最終感度での観測に向けた、バースト重力波検出のための突発性雑音評価および信号/雑音識別手法の確立である。特にKAGRA特有の冷凍装置に注目し、突発性雑音の原因となる環境雑音のモニター・特徴づけ・削減といった、バースト重力波探索のための基礎研究を行う。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

2021年度は主に前年4月にKAGRAとドイツのGEO600で行った国際共同重力波観測(O3GK)の解析を行った。前年度に引き続き、O3GKのKAGRA干渉計の雑音成分内訳を評価するNoise Budgetチームを主導し、各種測定の情報収集や整合性の確認、プロットの作成や論文執筆を進め、年度末に論文を査読付き雑誌およびarXivに投稿した。また、補助チャンネルの信号を用いた独立成分分析(ICA)により干渉計信号から特定の雑音成分を除去する手法を開発した。
突発性雑音に関連したトピックスとしては、2022年1月にトンガで発生した海底火山の噴火による地震波・空振・電磁波による擾乱をKAGRA施設にて観測し、その解析を行った。特に地上の空振による地下環境への影響(地震計やインフラサウンドセンサーへの伝達関数)を評価し、現在論執筆を進めている。
また、次の観測や将来的に問題になると予測される環境雑音への対策として、干渉計の制御外れ(ロックロス)の原因となる海洋波浪と地面振動の関係性の調査、地下水排水路による重力場雑音評価のシミュレーション研究、国際共同観測時にコヒーレントな雑音として残るシューマン共振磁場のモニターのための測定とシミュレーションなどを行った。
