Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、地球深部由来の火成岩に、隕石を対象とした高精度安定同位体分析を世界で初めて適用し、近年見つかりつつある上部マントルとは異なる化学的特徴を示す深部マントル物質の同位体組成を決定する。これによって、地球の材料物質となった太陽系物質の真の姿(種類)を明らかにすることを目指す。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究は、地球深部由来の火成岩に、隕石を対象とした高精度安定同位体分析を適用するという、世界初の試みであり、近年見つかっている上部マントルとは異なる化学的特徴を示す深部マントル物質の起源を特定することを目指すものである。これまでに、海洋研究開発機構で確立した手法を用いて、深部マントル由来火成岩であるオントンジャワ海台玄武岩、サモア海洋島玄武岩、インドの洪水玄武岩試料の高精度Cr-Ti安定同位体分析を行った。その結果、Ti同位体異常は全ての試料において検出されなかった。これに対し、サモア海洋島玄武岩では、 地球上部マントル試料と同一のCr安定同位体組成をもつことを確認し、オントンジャワ海台玄武岩、インドの洪水玄武岩などのいくつかの試料では系統的に誤差範囲を超えて正のCr同位体異常を確認した。令和3年度には、これらいくつかの試料で見つかった深部マントルにおける系統的なCr同位体正異常の検証を継続した。これまでのCr同位体分析のデータを解析し、検出器であるファラデーカップに配置する同位体、規格化に用いる同位体、標準試料とスパイク物質の混合比、元素分離のバッチを変化させることによるCr同位体比測定結果の変動をテストし、データ解析によって、ファラデーカップ検出効率の経年劣化による変動などのいくつか重要な変動要因を発見した。これらの変動要因に関する知見は、今後、特に小さな(± 0.001 %以下の)Cr同位体異常をもちうる試料から異常を検出していく上で非常に重要な足掛かりとなる。今後は、これら同位体変動要因の結果をまとめ、深部マントルにおける系統的なCr同位体正異常の検証について国際誌に投稿する予定である。
