Outline of Research at the Start

身の回りで起こる数多くの物理的・化学的現象は電子の運動により引き起こされる。光合成等自然界で重要な反応の理解や半導体等電子デバイスの材料開発には電子の運動:電子ダイナミクスを知ることが欠かせない。
電子ダイナミクスを調べる方法としてspLEAD電子分光法が最近提案された。X線等エネルギーの高い光で不安定になった物質にレーザーを照射すると、レーザーからさらにエネルギーを得て電子を出すspLEAD過程が起こる。この過程は物質内部の異なる電子との相関により引き起こされるため、この際に発生した電子を調べるspLEAD電子分光法を用いれば物質内部の電子ダイナミクスを詳細に知ることができると予想されている。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

紫外線やX線のようなエネルギーの高い光で不安定になった化学種では、電子を出して安定な状態へ緩和するオージェ緩和過程が起こる。単一光子レーザー誘起オージェ緩和(spLEAD)過程は、オージェ緩和過程がエネルギー的に禁制である化学種においてもレーザーからさらにエネルギーを得て起きるオージェ緩和過程である。spLEAD過程は内側の価電子に特徴的な電子相関により引き起こされる現象であるため、この過程を経て放出された電子から、アト秒スケールで起きる内側の価電子ダイナミクスの詳しい情報を得ることができると予想されている。本研究では、ネオン(Ne)原子を標的にspLEAD過程を経て放出された光電子の観測、かつ、コヒーレント制御を目的に実験を実行した。
イタリアの自由電子レーザー(FEL)施設FERMIで利用可能になった位相を制御した二色(基本波と倍波)の極紫外(EUV)コヒーレント光を標的に照射した。内側の価電子を外側の価電子の正孔に遷移させるように基本波の波長を選択した。放出された電子を速度マップ画像(VMI)型電子分光器を用いて観測した。電子分光器から得られたVMI画像を解析して電子のエネルギー分布や角度分布を取得した。光電子運動エネルギーの値からイオン化過程を特定することができた。二色光の相対位相の変化とともに角度分布が変化することを捉えた。これは、(1) 一つの正ホールを持つ中間状態を経由してspLEAD過程によりイオン化する過程と (2) 倍波による直接イオン化する過程 の異なる二つのイオン化過程により放出される電子が干渉しあっていることを意味する。したがって、spLEAD過程の観測、かつ、二色光の相対位相によるコヒーレント制御に成功した。
