Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では,結晶構造とその鏡像を重ね合わせることができない性質(カイラリティ)をもつ物質群に着目し,新奇な物性を示すカイラル磁性体の探索と,量子振動実験によるフェルミオロジーによって新奇なカイラル磁性を解き明かすことを目的としている.希土類・アクチノイド元素が磁性を担う新奇カイラル磁性体の物質開発を推し進めるとともに,多様な単結晶育成手法によって得られた純良なカイラル磁性体の単結晶試料を用いて,伝導電子やフェルミ面のトポロジーといった観点からなるフェルミオロジーによってカイラル磁性体の物理的性質を明らかにする.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では、結晶構造とその鏡像を重ね合わせることができない性質(カイラリティ)をもつ物質群に着目し、新奇な物性を示すカイラル磁性体の探索と,量子振動実験によるフェルミオロジーによって結晶構造のカイラリティに起因した電子状態を解き明かすことを目的とした。カイラル磁性体に関しては、希土類化合物などのf電子系化合物に着目して新物質開発や単結晶育成に取り組んだ。特に、RPt2B(R: 希土類元素)の系に着目し、CePt2BやPrPt2Bの単結晶育成や新物質開発に成功した。NdPt2Bに関しては、単結晶育成に成功し、結晶構造のカイラリティの絶対構造を含む結晶構造解析を行った。NdPt2Bの単結晶試料は、特徴的な磁気異方性を示し、10 K以下の温度領域では多段の磁化プラトーが観測された。NdPt2Bの単結晶育成・構造解析の詳細や詳細な物性に関する内容は、Physical Review Materials誌から出版された。量子振動実験に関しては、カイラルな結晶構造をもつNbGe2の純良単結晶育成に成功し、結晶構造の対称性を反映した異常な磁気破壊効果や、強い電子格子相互作用に起因する電子の有効質量の増大等が観測された。特に、結晶構造の対称性を反映した異常な磁気破壊効果に関しては、キラルな金属間化合物や空間反転対称性の破れた金属において広く観測されうる可能性が、本研究において示された。結晶構造の対称性を反映した伝導電子のスピンテクスチャの研究など、今後の研究の発展が期待される。
